6 Reasons Why Watching Your Health is the Best Investment

Taking care of your health is a priority, because yourself, your body, your mind, your health and well-being are the most important resources you have in life. Don’t you agree?

If the majority answer is yes, then why do we sometimes put health on the back burner? Some do it because they believe that taking care of themselves is very expensive (and this is not necessarily true) or because Christmas is approaching and it is not worth it; to be honest, we have all sacrificed health a bit at least once in our lives. No?

Therefore, today I want to share with you 6 reasons why watching your health is the best investment, regardless of the season.

6 reasons why watching your health is the best investment:

  1. The part can never be well unless the whole is well.

Plato said: “For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories.” If you think about it a bit, taking care of your health implies knowing and conquering yourself because:

  • There are genetic factors that predispose you to certain diseases.
  • You have a body type that accumulates more fat in certain areas or you may find it difficult to gain muscle mass.
  • Your hormones may be out of control.
  • Your lifestyle, your current weight, your eating habits, the amount of exercise you do, the quality of your sleep, the stress of your daily life play a key role in how your body works.

Hence the importance of modifying your habits in order to take care of your health and as you will understand, it does not only imply eating better, but also seeing yourself from a comprehensive/analytical point of view and providing your body with everything it needs to achieve true well-being.

Also, when we are healthy, we are much more productive or at least we concentrate more and better, and we also have more fun. Visiting from doctor to doctor is not the same as being able to go out with your family or work comfortably, earn more money and achieve all your goals.

  1. Reduce your unforeseen expenses

Being sick causes us many unforeseen expenses, a simple flu, forces us to visit the doctor, buy medicines, stay at home for several days (without producing money) and all this has a cost.

If you learn to take care of your health, you will not only have less flu, but you will be preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes (which could force you to spend a lifetime of earnings to try to recover a reasonable level of health).

Also if you take care of your health at all times, you avoid damage to your body, you reduce the aging of your skin, the risk of having to undergo surgery, of needing a replacement organ, in short … my intention is not to cause alarm, but to make you see that taking care of your health today is more economical and practical than continuing an unhealthy lifestyle.

  1. Reduce stress

As you can see, whether to take care of your health or to recover from an illness, you have to spend money, and that shows that health has a cost, yes! but you can’t really purchase “health” on Amazon like everything else; so no matter how much money you really have, if you get sick you will have to go through the whole process necessary to recover, a process that causes stress to you and your loved ones that care about your wellbeing.

This happens because stress is a biological and psychological defense reaction to a negative stimulus in our lives. We feel it daily at work, in the family, with illnesses, arguments or some traumatic events such as an assault or natural disaster.

When we feel in danger, the body releases high doses of hormones and neurotransmitters such as adrenaline, norepinephrine, cortisol, among others, which prepare the body to flee or face some uncomfortable or risky situation. I must clarify that if this situation is real, stress works as an engine that helps us mitigate the threat, and get to safety and therefore, it is NOT bad.

However, and for the same reasons, taking actions that help us have a healthier lifestyle and take care of ourselves will allow us to feel less stressed. There shouldn’t be threats to our wellbeing around every corner, right?

  1. It allows you to save money in the medium term

A good nutritionist can help you change your habits and NOT, it is not about dieting for life or eating less, but about eating better, in addition to engaging in some exercise, maintaining normal hygiene and sleeping a little more.

Did you know that there are habits that allow you to take care of your health and save money? For example:

  • Make a grocery list.
  • Plan your meals.
  • Buy in local markets.
  • Eat more natural foods and fewer processed products.
  • Learn to read labels. (you’ll buy better quality products)
  • Prepare your own food. (The savings are astounding, I promise)
  • Walk or bike when possible, instead of using the car.
  • Give yourself time to rest.

And although it is hard to believe when you do this, you realize that all those “insignificant expenses” that you stop wasting on snacks, frequent fast foods, unexpected visits and meds at the doctor, added to the increase in your energy and productivity (just being healthy) in the medium term become savings for you.

  1. Increase your happiness

Surely you have heard that exercising increases your happiness — this is true and there is an explanation for it; it is proven that exercising increases endorphins in your body, reduces stress and improves your energy levels, this is what makes you feel “happier.”

But, in addition, it is a logical statement. If you are healthy, full of energy, encouragement (and also with all the extra money that you have been able to save and earn by taking care of yourself) you will surely feel happier, calmer about your future and effective towards those things that you really want for your tribe.

  1. Taking care of your health does NOT have to be expensive.

In fact, buying natural foods (vegetables, quality proteins, seeds), is cheaper than buying processed foods that also do not nourish us, do not give us satiety and that make us sick when eaten in excess.

Changing habits implies taking responsibility for our lives and this will be reflected in better decision-making, purchases with higher quality and awareness. The accountability is visible for miles.

Likewise, when you are more aware you realize that, whoever wants to, can. You don’t need to go to the gym to exercise, you don’t “forget” to drink water, you respect your sleep hours and the better you feel, the more you do. More than money, modifying your habits implies a true commitment to yourself and to your health.

Consistency is the key!

As I explained in the first point to take care of your health, more than going on a diet, you need to make a change in habits, more than eating, we need to nourish ourselves; we need balance. If you apply the 80/20 rule and most of the time you implement a healthy style there is no reason to eliminate or demonize food.

By becoming aware of our body, our nutrition, our movements and our rest, we will be able to make better decisions. It is time to take responsibility and take care of our health.

If you want to know how to achieve it in Nutrition for Your Health we can provide you with tools such as references to online nutrition consultations and programs and courses.

You already know, taking care of your health is not an expense, it is an investment and it is the best thing you can do at any time of the year.
